Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why work with a realtor?

The Real Estate Council of Ontario holds all REALTORS® to a strict code of ethics that works to protect you as a buyer & as a seller in your real estate transaction. The biggest purchase in your life should be left to the professionals and that’s why over 98% of homes sold in Ontario are bought and sold by REALTORS®.

  • Do I need to get pre-approved?

Yes, this should be your very first step on your journey of purchasing a home. There is no cost to speaking with a mortgage broker or your bank to determine what kind of price range you are in, and what type of mortgages options are available to you.

  • Do you have to call the agent on the sign (the listing agent)?

No, call the realtor who has been recommended to you by friends, family, co-workers, and make sure that someone is someone who you can trust. You want to develop a good working relationship with your REALTOR® and make sure there is transparency in the type of home you’re looking for, or what your goals are in selling your home.

  • New Home and Resale?

There are many advantages to both a new home and a resale home. Typically, new homes come with more up-to-date finishings as well as newer building codes, which in turn provides the homeowner with a maintenance free home for the first few years. While a resale home will be in a developed neighbourhood, perhaps with things like a fully fenced yard, mature trees, not in a construction zone. There are lots of different angles to consider when debating these options and should be discussed in detail with your REALTOR®.
